Science-Based Targets Initiative approved climate targets of Deutsche Bahn

(Berlin, July 13, 2020) Deutsche Bahn has received the seal of approval of the renowned Science-Based Targets Initiative (SBTi). This is a scientific confirmation: With our greenhouse gas reduction targets, we at Deutsche Bahn take responsibility for achieving the 2-degree target of the Paris Climate Conference.

The SBTi seal of approval once again confirms that travel by train is active climate protection. By 2030 we want to more than halve our CO2e emissions compared to 2006 and increase the share of renewable energies in the traction current mix to 80 %. By 2050 we want to be climate-neutral. These targets are an integral part of Deutsche Bahn's Green Transformation and are reflected in our umbrella strategy Strong Rail.

SBTi promotes science-based climate targets

SBTi has set itself the goal of promoting science-based climate targets in companies. It is a leader in this field. SBTi was founded jointly by the CDP, the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC), the World Resources Institute (WRI) and the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF).

When assessing climate targets, SBTi considers both the sector and the size of the company. In this way, an individual contribution is calculated for each company, which is required to achieve the 2-degree target.
