(Berlin, March 22, 2017) At its regular meeting, the Supervisory Board of Deutsche Bahn AG has adopted far-reaching personnel and structural resolutions. The Board appointed 52 year-old business economist Dr. Richard Lutz as new DB Chief Executive Officer. Lutz has been with Deutsche Bahn since 1994; he has been responsible for the Board division Finance/Controlling since April 2010. The Board division Finance/Controlling will be merged into the divisional responsibilities of the Chief Executive Officer. At the same time, the Supervisory Board decided to prematurely re-confirm the appointments of the other Management Board members Berthold Huber (Passenger Transport) and Ronald Pofalla (Infrastructure), which were soon due for renewal. Both have also been given five-year contracts through March 2022.

As Prof. Dr. Dr. Utz-Hellmuth Felcht, Chairman of the Supervisory Board, explained in Berlin on Wednesday: “Nobody knows Deutsche Bahn better than Richard Lutz. His manifold expertise and experience guarantee the continuity the company needs as it undergoes drastic change. The Supervisory Board’s decision to extend the contracts of Berthold Huber and Ronald Pofalla at the same time is proof of our conviction that these three – together with Ulrich Weber (Management Board member responsible for HR) – form a team that will consistently and successfully push ahead with our Railway of the Future program aimed at increasing customer numbers and enhancing quality.”

The new divisions Digitalization & Technology and Freight Transport & Logistics will be added to the existing Board divisions – Chief Executive Officer, Passenger Transport (including DB Arriva), Infrastructure, and HR & Legal. The Supervisory Board plans to make the appointments to the two new Board divisions shortly. Until then, Dr. Richard Lutz has assumed temporary responsibility for Digitalization & Technology and Berthold Huber for Freight Transport & Logistics.
